SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 42

Requesting the joint committee on government and finance to make
a study of the proposed coalfields expressway, a seventy
mile road from Beckley into Grundy, Virginia.
Whereas, Residents of Wyoming, McDowell, Raleigh and other
coalfield counties would benefit greatly from such an expressway;
and
Whereas, Timber companies, tourism and retailers would also
benefit from the expressway by cutting the travel time on the two
lane road in half; and
Whereas, This is an effort to open up the southern portion
of the state; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the joint committee on government and finance is hereby
requested to review, examine and study the status of the
coalfield expressway, the needs for further funding and the ways
and means for development of such programs which are feasible and
advisable and to make recommendations to the Legislature
regarding the same; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the joint committee on government and
finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 1998, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with
drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its
recommendations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That expenses necessary to conduct this
study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be
paid from legislative appropriations to the jJoint cCommittee on
gGovernment and fFinance.
